Depressing reason viewers of SNL skit refuse to find Mike Myers’ impersonation of Elon Musk funny

Elon Musk was once again the subject of an SNL skit, with Mike Myers portraying his chainsaw-wielding antics, but some viewers have their own depressing reasons for not finding the sketch too funny.

There has historically been quite the back-and-forth between comedy live show SNL and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and this has exponentially ramped up since the latter joined the campaign trail of now-US President Donald Trump last year.

Musk has previously hosted the show in May 2021, although his appearance was controversial after making cast member Chloe Fineman cry, but his appearances in recent months has exclusively been through mocking jokes and comedic impersonations.

Chris Rock threw multiple punches towards the richest man in the world in his opening monologue, and Musk has previously lashed out at the show following similar impersonations.

Mike Myers most recent mocking of Musk appears to have troubled both sides of the camp though, as neither fans nor detractors of the DOGE head have emerged with a smile on their face.

Musk himself remarked that “humor fails when it lies” in reference to the skit that saw Myers flailing around a chainsaw behind Trump and Zelenskyy, but others might have found this particular sequence too ‘scary’ to see the humor.

“It was satisfying to watch,” remarks one user in a Reddit thread about the skit, “but I didn’t find it funny because it was too spot on, which is scary to me.”

Another added that they “can’t even enjoy people making fun of this s***. It’s all too depressing.”

SNL has historically leaned heavily on its political commentary, mocking many a US president in the show’s 50-year runtime, but the theatrics of Trump and Musk might be too ‘real’ for many to see the humor within.

“I thought he was far too charismatic,” remarked an additional comment in reference to Myers reenactment of Musk. “Sorry Myers, gonna need to up the creep factor a bit beyond Austin Powers to get this one right.”

One thing that’s clear though is that Musk isn’t too appreciative of the imitation, and it’s not the first time that he’s taken to social media to push back against criticizm aimed at him in the entertainment world.

Musk previously labelled late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel an “insufferable nonsense propaganda puppet” following a monologue targeting the tech mogul and President Trump, to which Kimmel bitingly replied: “At least my children like me.”

He has also picked fights with rapper Cardi B and infamous hacking group Anonymous over comments they’ve made, and it’s clear that this won’t be the last time that there’s an outburst on social media, although the laughter is starting to wear off as reality sets in for many.
