19 Years Later, ‘disaster Girl’ Gained Insane Money From The Famous Meme

Zoë Roth, known for the iconic “Disaster Girl” meme, decided to profit from her viral image by selling it as a non-fungible token (NFT) in 2021. The picture, taken in 2005 when Roth was four, shows her grinning mischievously in front of a burning house. It became a popular meme symbolizing nefarious actions.

Roth sold the original photo for 180 Ethereum, worth about $473,000 at the time. The sale included a code ensuring the family retained copyright and received 10% of future sales. Roth expressed her enjoyment of the meme’s various creative iterations and noted the sale’s benefits, including paying off her college loans and donating to charity. Grateful for the experience, Roth appreciated how the internet kept her image relevant and viral for years.
