The Justice Department is suing New York, Governor Kathy Hochul, and Attorney General Letitia James over immigration enforcement, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced. She accused the state of prioritizing undocumented immigrants over citizens and obstructing federal immigration laws.
James defended New York’s policies, arguing they protect residents and have been upheld in court. Hochul dismissed the lawsuit as “smoke and mirrors,” vowing not to back down.
Bondi also mentioned potential cooperation from Mayor Eric Adams on immigration issues. Additionally, she issued directives targeting sanctuary cities and vowed to combat transnational crime.
This follows similar lawsuits against Illinois and Chicago. Bondi reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to enforcing strict immigration policies despite judicial pushback.
