If you find a tick inside your home, here’s what you need to know

Ticks are not only annoying but can also transmit dangerous diseases like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Here’s what to do if you encounter one:

Identify and Isolate:

Determine the type of tick (e.g., black-legged, dog, or brown dog tick) and keep pets and children away from the area until it’s dealt with.

Protective Steps:

Wear gloves and long sleeves to prevent ticks from latching onto your skin.

Clean Thoroughly:

Wash any affected clothing or bedding on high heat and vacuum the area, focusing on corners and crevices.

Tick Removal:

Use fine-tipped tweezers to remove the tick, pulling gently without twisting to avoid leaving parts behind. Clean the bite area with alcohol or soapy water, and dispose of the tick by flushing it or using alcohol.

Monitor:

Keep an eye on the bite area for any changes and watch for symptoms.
