Boasberg had held Trump officials in contempt for not returning Garcia, but the Supreme Court ruled the case should be heard in Texas, not Washington, D.C. Urbahn called the judge’s actions “desperate” and criticized his continued efforts despite the ruling.
A federal appeals court later rejected the Trump administration’s request to block Boasberg’s order, allowing it to remain for now.
The case involves Garcia, deported to a high-security prison in El Salvador, who is not a legal U.S. resident. The Department of Justice is appealing the ongoing legal battle.
