Why is it so important not to flush the toilet after every trip to the toilet to urinate?

Flushing the toilet is a routine act we rarely question, yet each flush uses 3 to 9 liters of clean drinking water—just to remove urine. Multiply that by several flushes a day, and a single household can waste up to 100 liters daily, or over 36,000 liters a year.

Meanwhile, millions around the world lack access to clean water. It’s a sobering contrast that highlights how easily we take this resource for granted.

One simple, eco-friendly habit has gained popularity: “If it’s yellow, let it mellow; if it’s brown, flush it down.” While it may not suit every setting, adopting this practice even part-time can make a significant impact.

Saving water doesn’t always require high-tech solutions—just awareness and small changes. It starts with rethinking habits we’ve never questioned and choosing to value the resources we often overlook.
