Blood sugar, or blood glucose, is vital for energy. The pancreas produces insulin to regulate glucose levels and transport it into cells. However, insulin resistance can disrupt this process, leading to high blood sugar, or hyperglycemia.
Common signs of high blood sugar include constant thirst, frequent urination, extreme hunger, and fatigue. When blood sugar is elevated, the kidneys work overtime to filter excess sugar, causing dehydration and increased thirst. Frequent urination results from water loss due to high glucose. Extreme hunger occurs because the body can’t use glucose properly, signaling the brain for more food. Fatigue and weakness can also arise as the kidneys strain to process excess glucose.
