Gene Hackman, the legendary actor known for his roles in The French Connection, Hoosiers, and Superman, was found dead with his wife Betsy Arakawa and their dog in their Santa Fe, New Mexico home on February 26, 2025. Hackman, 95, had retired from acting in the early 2000s.
A maintenance worker discovered their bodies after arriving for routine work and called 911. Hackman’s body was found in the entryway, while Arakawa, 63, was near a space heater. Pills were found next to her. Two other dogs were alive on the property, but a German shepherd was dead. Authorities are investigating, and while no foul play is suspected, the cause of death is still unclear. Gas lines were tested, but no issues were found. Autopsy results are pending.
Hackman’s career spanned over four decades, earning two Oscars for The French Connection and Unforgiven.
