The deaths of Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, are under investigation after their bodies were found in their New Mexico home. Authorities responded to an emergency call from a maintenance worker on February 26, 2025, who found the couple’s bodies. Hackman, 95, was discovered in a side room, while Arakawa, 65, was found in a bathroom. Both showed signs of decomposition and mummification.
Investigators have not ruled out foul play, though no visible injuries were found. The presence of a portable heater near Arakawa’s body and the open front door raised suspicions. Toxicology and carbon monoxide tests are underway, but no gas leaks or poisoning have been detected. The couple’s dog was also found dead, and two others were alive. Authorities are awaiting further test results.
