“Nola… I’m so sorry. Fred’s gone.”
Nola collapsed in shock, refusing to believe it. At the coroner’s office, she saw Fred’s lifeless body. The coroner said it was a heart attack and suggested an autopsy, but Nola, distraught, refused.
The next day, Fred’s funeral was arranged. During the service, Nola’s grief turned to anger. “If there was a God, Fred would still be here,” she cried. At the casket, she whispered goodbye and kissed him one last time — then Fred blinked.
At first, Nola thought it was her imagination, but Fred’s eyes opened again. Screaming for help, she alerted the funeral staff. Fred was rushed to the hospital, where doctors revealed he’d gone into a coma-like state due to a severe allergic reaction.
Thanks to Nola’s refusal of embalming, Fred was alive. It was a miracle. Nola now saw life — and faith — through a different lens. She’d been given a second chance.
