The Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed the fatalities, with Deputy Police Officer Rob Hill stating that “at least 15 individuals were pronounced dead as a result of the collision.” Ten more people are receiving medical care at a local hospital. While both drivers survived, the cause of the crash has not yet been determined. Photographs from the scene showed damaged walking frames and wheelchair seats near the tarpaulins covering the victims.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson have both expressed their condolences.
