FBI Cautions iPhone and Android Users to Disconnect if They Hear This Sound

A new phone scam has prompted an urgent FBI warning for iPhone and Android users. Scammers use caller ID spoofing to appear as trusted sources like banks or police, even naming real officers to gain trust. Once you answer, they create panic—claiming issues like a compromised bank account or missed court date—and demand immediate payment.

The FBI urges users to hang up immediately if anything feels off. Legitimate organizations will never ask for personal info or urgent payments over the phone. Don’t press buttons or engage, as this confirms your number is active.

To stay safe, contact the real institution through official channels if you’re unsure. Report scam attempts to local police and the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center. Always treat surprise calls and texts—especially those with urgency or suspicious links—with skepticism.
