Sophie Nyweide, best known for playing Michelle Williams’ daughter in Mammoth (2009), passed away on April 14 at the age of 24. A former child star, she appeared in seven films before age ten, including Bella, Margot at the Wedding, and An Invisible Sign.
Her family shared that Sophie battled deep trauma and self-medicated to cope, ultimately leading to her untimely death. Despite efforts from therapists, loved ones, and law enforcement, she turned down life-saving treatment, insisting she could manage on her own.
Sophie was described as a kind, creative soul who found comfort and joy on film sets. Her mother, actress Shelly Gibson, recalled her daughter’s early love of movies and shared a heartfelt tribute online, saying, “My Sophie, rest in peace… I adore my daughter. I want her to return.”
Fans offered condolences and support, mourning the loss of a talented young woman whose life ended far too soon.
