Man Saves Coins For 45 Years and Rakes In a Fortune

Otha Anders, the “coin master,” walked into a bank with five-gallon jugs of pennies, drawing attention with their clinking. A Jackson school board supervisor, Anders believed every penny was a sign from God, encouraging gratitude. On days he forgot to pray, a stray penny would appear as a reminder.

For 45 years, Anders collected pennies, stacking them in jugs. His family supported the hobby, which grew into an obsession. Bank employees spent hours counting the coins, totaling $5,136.14—about $114.40 a year.

He used the money for a dental bill, a family trip, and church donations. His decades-long hobby proved that small acts of gratitude can lead to big rewards.
