Melania Trump “leads her own life” amid White House absence

Melania has publicly stated that her second term as First Lady will be different. She will not be living at the White House full-time, and now, a new source has shed light on her daily life. Simply put, it appears she does not dedicate much time to politics.

When Donald Trump won the 2024 Presidential Election, Melania clarified her stance regarding her impending second term at the White House. In the last few years, she has pretty much stayed out of the spotlight, instead focusing on helping and supporting her and Donald’s son, Barron.

Barron, remember, has moved back to his home city, New York, and started his studies at Stern Business School at New York University. Although Melania has said she will take on many duties in her capacity as First Lady, she won’t live in Washington full-time.

“I will be in the White House. And you know when I need to be in New York, I will be in New York. When I need to be in Palm Beach, I will be in Palm Beach. But my first priority is, you know, to be a mom, to be a first lady, to be a wife. And once we are in on January 20, you serve the country,” Melania told Fox News.

Melania was with her husband on Election Day and at his side on Inauguration Day. However, besides that, the First Lady of the United States has barely been seen.

Melania has become a true American since she arrived in the US in the 1990s, but she has not let go of her Slovenian heritage. Donald and Melania traveled to Los Angeles last month, where they met with Governor Gavin Newsom to discuss rebuilding the many areas destroyed by the wildfires.

On X, one user posted a touching 30-second clip in which Melania comforted victims of the wildfire, including one where she spoke with a woman in Slovenian. Social media users were quick to praise the First Lady for her caring demeanor, as well as for speaking in her native language.

Melania wasn’t in attendance alongside her husband for the Super Bowl in New Orleans, and it’s said she has spent a lot of time in Florida since Trump took office. As First Lady, some might have thought Melania would be at the White House when Donald Trump welcomed a few world leaders who visited 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Per CNN, Donald has welcomed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but Melania has not been there. She was also absent when Donald signed executive orders at the Oval Office, and when he welcomed women’s sports teams after winning their championships.

What Melania has been doing has been hidden from the public, giving rise to speculation. Speaking to People Magazine, an unnamed source claimed that Melania has spent much time recently filming her Amazon documentary.

The political source told the news outlet that Melania’s absence from the spotlight during Trump’s first month in office “should not come as a surprise because this is how she lives.” The source added that Melania “will never be a traditional first lady” and has “her own ideas on what she wants to do.”

Further, People Magazine wrote that the first lady “has been involved with moving ahead on her own projects, and recently she has been in the White House for that.”

On January 6, Amazon confirmed they had begun filming a new behind-the-scenes film about Melania. Besides the documentary, which will be released in theaters later this year, a follow-up documentary series is reportedly also being produced.

As per Puck News, three people familiar with the deal said it’s worth $40 million in licensing. The project began filming in December 2024 and will be released in theaters and on the streaming platform in the second half of 2025.

Melania Trump set to star in a new documentary.

In early January, Melania appeared on Fox & Friends to discuss the new documentary. She explained that her memoir was “such a success” that she felt people would love to hear more from her.

Melania also discussed moving into the White House again, explaining that this time would be different as she now knows the process.

“I have the plans, I could move in, I already packed, I already selected the furniture that needs to go in, so it’s a very different transition this time, second time around,” Melania said. “What happened is on January 20, the transition team has only five hours to move Bidens out and to move us in, so everything needs to be planned to the minute.”

Though Melania has been away from Washington – and the spotlight – for quite a while, she’s now returned to the White House. CNN reports that the First Lady attended the Governors Ball last weekend, and now fans wait to see when she will be seen in public again.

Over the last month, she has split her time between the Trump family’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach and the White House. However, a People Magazine source says that Melania hasn’t been in the capital on any official First Lady duties.

Melania Trump ‘to improve’ Donald Trump’s diet at the White House

During her first term at the White House, Melania focused heavily on her Be Best campaign, aiming to help children fight bullying. The Slovenian-born former model told Fox in January that she hopes to expand the awareness campaign further in the next few years.
