Abdul’s mother, Rabia Khalid, had taken him after a court awarded full custody to his father. In February 2023, police discovered Abdul 1,500 miles away in Colorado during a burglary investigation. Two adults, Rabia and Elliot Blake Bourgeois, were arrested and charged with several crimes, including kidnapping and identity theft.
Abdul is now in protective custody, and his family expressed overwhelming joy at his safe return. Authorities praised the sharp work of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, whose efforts led to the child’s recovery.
