Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead together at their New Mexico home on February 26. Hackman, 95, and Arakawa, 63, had been married for nearly 34 years. Authorities confirmed there was no indication of foul play but a preliminary investigation is ongoing. Their pet dog was also found deceased.
Hackman retired from acting in 2004, stepping away from the limelight and moving to New Mexico with Betsy. The couple led a private life, rarely granting interviews. Hackman once shared that they enjoyed watching simple, low-budget films together, often spending Friday nights watching a Comedy Channel marathon, especially enjoying performances by Eddie Izzard.
Before their marriage in 1991, Hackman clarified that he didn’t leave his first wife for Betsy, but their relationship evolved naturally over time.
