In 2011, teens Essa Ricker, Kelsea Webster, and her sister Savannah were tragically killed by a train in Utah’s Spanish Fork Canyon while taking a selfie on the tracks.
Unaware of the approaching train, the girls couldn’t move in time despite the engineer’s warnings. Savannah, 13, died later in the hospital.
Before the accident, she had posted on Facebook: “Standing right by a train ahaha this is awsome!!!! [sic].”
The train crew was devastated. The girls’ mother later called the tragedy preventable and urged others to take rail safety seriously.
